For real estate agents & brokers

Why real estate automation stalls. And how to fix it.

We read what agents and brokers actually say on Reddit about automating their business. Here are the 7 roadblocks that keep coming up, with a practical fix for each.

The 7 roadblocks

What gets in the way, and the fix for each

Roadblock 1

Software built for problems agents don't have

Asked why real estate software is so disliked, agents say much of it solves problems that don't exist.

Fix: Automate the one task that costs you the most time or deals. Nothing else yet.

Roadblock 2

Too many disconnected tools

CRM, IDX site, email, texting, e-signature: the same client details typed into several apps.

Fix: Audit your stack, cut overlaps and connect the rest so a lead is entered once.

Roadblock 3

Setup is hard

Many agents skip automations because they're hard to build and nobody wants to hand-write every message.

Fix: Block 90 minutes to build one automation end to end, or hand it off.

Roadblock 4

Leads go quiet, follow-ups slip

The most common pain point: keeping up with follow-up. One busy weekend and new inquiries never hear back.

Fix: Automate the first reply and a call task for every new lead.

Roadblock 5

They don't trust AI

Agents report AI making things up, and worry that when everyone uses it, nobody stands out.

Fix: Automate timing and routing; keep a person on anything that states facts.

Roadblock 6

Compliance and liability

Some tools create legal liability for the broker: consent, unsubscribes and advertising rules all apply.

Fix: Record consent, and include your brokerage name and an unsubscribe in every message.

Roadblock 7

"Real estate is about people"

Many problems can't be fixed by automation, and building it feels like a grind with an uncertain payoff.

Fix: Automate the admin around the relationship, never the relationship itself.

The pattern

Agents aren't against automation. They're tired of tools that don't fit.

Across r/realtors, r/RealEstateTechnology, r/TorontoRealEstate and other communities, agents want fewer missed leads and less admin. But most automation is sold as another tool to learn, rather than a system that quietly does the follow-up for them.

For brokers and team leads

Rolling automation out to a team is a different problem.

01 — Adoption

Agents won't adopt it

Independent agents judge a tool by this week's deals. Announcing a tool isn't adoption; early wins are.

02 — Tool sprawl

Too many apps

Brokerages keep adding apps until nobody knows how many they pay for, and agents lose focus on income-producing work.

03 — Visibility

No view of the leads

Without shared routing and activity logs, two agents work the same lead while another goes untouched.
